Gsteig

Gsteig was first mentioned in documents in 1312. At that time it was called "Chastalet", which means watchtower, defense and refuge tower. This tower is symbolically represented in the municipal coat of arms. The half crane refers to the fact that it belonged to the county of Gruyères at the time.

Summer activities

Gsteig is the starting point of a diverse and varied hiking area that has something to offer for every level. Hikes lead to the surrounding mountain lakes, the Arnensee, the Sanetsch reservoir and the Lauenensee. One attraction is the castle falls, which can be reached in just over 15 minutes from the village and offer a wildly romantic backdrop. Mountain tours, via ferratas and challenging tours are also available from Gsteig.

It is just under 7 km to the "Col du Pillon" to the valley station of the Glacier 3000 cable car, which leads to the Scex Rouge, where a fantastic panoramic view and numerous attractions beckon. The "Martisberg" nature reserve with its magnificent flowers and the adjacent "Oldenrundweg", where marmots and chamois can be observed, can also be reached via the Glacier 3000 cable car or on foot from Reusch.

Soccer field with barbecue area

Just 10 minutes from our hotel is a public football pitch - to let off steam, with or without a ball. In the shade of a small wood, a swiss family barbecue area invites you to enjoy a cozy get-together.
Supplies can be bought in the shop in the village center.

Beach volleyball

Gsteig offers a beach volleyball court for free use.
Just a short walk and there's nothing to stop you having fun on the sand.

Winter activities

It is only two minutes from the Hotel Bären to the cross-country ski trail, which leads all the way to Gstaad. The small village ski lift is also just 500 meters from the hotel.

The skiing and cross-country skiing areas of Gstaad and the surrounding area can be reached in 10 minutes, as is the valley station of the Glacier 3000 cable car.

A number of ski tours lead from Gsteig to the surrounding mountains and there are many other possibilities throughout the Saanenland.

An skating rink, snow shoe and sledging trails complete the winter sports offer.

Gstaad

In addition to Gstaad, the region comprises another 9 chalet villages situated between 1000 and 1400 meters above sea level. Today, the Gstaad brand is known worldwide for glamorous charm and discreet luxury with understatement. But despite its style and class, Gstaad has remained genuinely alpine and down-to-earth. It is proud of its tradition and lives by it.

Numerous events are available to guests every year, including world-class top events. Visitors will also find top hotels, excellent shopping opportunities along the car-free promenade and its own airfield in Saanen.
